2003-2004 Pictures

January 2003-Just an updated photo.
My locs are beginning to condense (get tighter).

April 2003- Still loving my locs!!
(Ernie, this smile is for you!).

May 2003- They are growing quite nicely and they still have a mind of their own!!! I still get hair balls and sometimes a bad case of the frizzies. I had a birthday and the gray hair just started popping out all over. I still find them to be very low maintenance. I spritz with water and EO's and a little oil, everyday. Wash once every two weeks, nice rinse once a week, clarifying with vinegar about once a month. The best hair decision I ever made!!!

Ocotober 2003- WOW, another year has gone by. I celebrated by second year "locaversary" in August. They are growing, they are healthy and they are a blessing. Amazingly enough, I have a bunch of baby locs starting all over my head. I still get frizzies from time to time and I still get little hairballs. My routine hasn't changed much. I use more water than oil in my daily spritz and I've been using a combination of shampoos when I wash. I've even started taking better care of the rest of me. My hope is that by this time next year, I'll be a few pounds lighter and a whole lot healthier.

March 2004- I guess its about time for an update. This marks two and a half years locing. Not much to report in terms of routine. Still doing the "less is more" thing. Wash about once every two weeks. Tighten by latchhooking once every two or three months. One observation- your hair is always going through one of the major transitions at any point in time. I have mature tips (ends of my locks), but I have a major crop of baby locs on top of my head. I can have fuzzies right along with condensed mature locks. I can latchhook in the new growth, which really helps to strengthen the base and has helped me to keep my rather thin locks without any shedding of locks. The less I manipulate them, the stronger they stay. I tried twisting the new growth but found it to be too labor intensive for too little time. No sooner would I have twisted it, then it would be untwisted. Daily spritzing didn't help. for a little closer look at what my latchhooked locks look like, click on the thumbnail.
June 2004- I wish I had taken this picture first thing in the morning! Now its after a very busy day and my hair has flattened a little. I got it good and wet the night before (I'm now using a mixture of half water, half aloe vera juice and essential oils). Since my hair doesn't stay together very well, I braided several locs together then rubber banded the end. Slept with it like that and the next day I had a nice crinkled look! The shot of the back of my head looks kind of strange because I was shaking my hair when my husband took it.

Speaking of water and aloe vera juice- I thought that I would try this combination since it was getting some good press on LovinLocs. Wow, it sure has made a huge difference in how my locs look. My locs look a lot tighter and they actually have a nice sheen to them. Much to my surprise, not adding any oil to the mixture has had a very positive effect also. I have little to no dandruff now. I can feel the natural oils in my hair also. I am adding lavendar, rosemary and tea tree essential oils, and thats it.
September 2004- A couple of shots of the back.
